Nail Art: Azkals Nails

Hi.. How are you today?. Today I will share my Azkals Nail design. This is inspired from the Pihilippines Football Team. They will have a game today against Kuwait, so this is my way of supporting them. Maybe you are thinking "why azkals?" Well, here is an article written by By Noel Villaflor Published in May 2008 on defunct Pinoy Soccer Website.

WHO ELSE but Filipino fans can think of naming a national football team from an animal as ubiquitous as a street dog?

The Azkals is short for “asong kalye,” Tagalog for street dog, that resilient mongrel found in most Filipino homes. (Yes, a street dog with a home. An askal without a home either ends up in the pound or the cauldron.)

Still, it is a mystery to some how the team, which is gunning for the top spot at the AFC Challenge Cup here, got such a name.

It all began in the summer of 2005, months before the Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines, when the football scene was abuzz with news that a new breed of Filipino footballers will represent the country in the biennial meet.

The fans, giddy with excitement and sick of the team being the perennial doormat in Asia, welcomed the development.

The entry of the Fil-foreigners, spearheaded by the Younghusband brothers, raised hopes for a new era of Philippine football.

As the team quickly took shape, fans who tackled the state of Philippine football in online forums discussed ways to support the team, among other issues.

One fan at the defunct Philfootball.info popped the question: what shall we call them?

Until then, the team had no moniker.

A zoo of names was put forth: Eagles, Tamaraws, even Carabaos.

Hardly any of the proposals stirred the imagination, until a forumer suggested “Askals.” The name caught on.

After lengthy online debates, the forumers decided that no other name could be more appropriate.

They agreed that the Filipino football player must possess the traits of the askal: aggressiveness, resilience, unbridled loyalty. The askal, survives, even triumphs, amid meager resources, against all odds. It transcends bloodlines.

No animal on earth equals the askal.

With a slight tweak, the “s” was changed to “z,” thus Azkals, which could also refer to “Kalye Azul,” or roughly Blue Alley. (Blue and red are the team’s official colors.)

The first time the Philippine national team was referred to as “Azkals” in mainstream media was in a sports story by football chronicler Mike Limpag, now sports editor, on Sun.Star Cebu on July 13, 2005.

On my pinky is our National Flag, next is our goalie's(Ethridge) jersey, then my idol Chieffy Ciligdong's jersey,
a footbal, then on my thumb is their slogan "We Believe"

Win or Lose, I support you Azkals. We believe!

Thanks for dropping by. 'Til next time. :)

Nail Art: Sassy Penguins

Hi. This nail design was inspired by two brothers who entered in a talent reality show which was recently concluded, I think two weeks ago. They ended up as 2nd place but I know they have touch every Filipinos hearts by their very humbling story. They showcase their tap dance talent in the audition. Funny because they do not know what the name of the dance. They just call it "Happy Feet Dance" because they copied their steps in the animated movie Happy Feet. To be able to attend in the auditions, they sell tomatoes at their public market in Libona, Bukidnon in order to have a fare to go to Davao. Because of their undeniable tap dance talent, one of the judges buy them both a pair of tap dance shoes for them to use in the semi-finals because they were wearing an ordinary leather shoes which was only borrowed. You can watch them in the video below..

Nail Art: Comeback Nails

Hi blogging world.. I'm sorry for my MIA for two months. :( As you can observe my last post was last May 15, 2011, it is because a dear friend of mine met an accident last May 16 and died on the 19th. T.T I was so affected by his death because he was a friend since we were in high school and he is my super friend's boyfriend for ten years, so I have to be with her oftentimes.  It's sad that he was able to survive the war from Libya and got home last March but then died here.  But then, he is now in our Lord's hand, forever safe and happy.

But life has to go on, so here is three of my nail arts in the last two months. I wasn't able to take pictures of the others. I hope you like it. They are just simple designs using acrylics and decors.

I'll try to be more visible this month of July so I think you will read more from me, I guess ;).. See yah again!

HI!!!!! It's been awhile since my last post. How is everyone doing?.. I miss my blog. Well, if you're interested why I'm MIA this past few weeks, it's because my laptop's lcd was broken. My fault actually. But since I have found an alternative to my broken lappy, I'm back. So back. *wink*

Here is my first post for the month of May. The design is quite simple and I think everyone can do it. It is just a simple stroke of your striping brush and playing with acrylics. I hope you enjoy this nail art tutorial..

This are the tools that I used in this design. (those "wavy" bottles are  my acrylic paints)

Apply a base base coat and then, paint a sky blue polish as a base color.

Using a striping brush, make a undefine strokes upwards to make  the grasses.

Draw the dragonfly using a small dotting tool.

add little flowers on the grasses for additional design.

add a topcoat when the acrylics are dry. and your done..!

So, what do you think?.. Have a great day!!

-use a dotting tool and draw white dots on the tips
-apply a clear polish to stick the fimos and rhinestones on

Nail Polish Swatch: Caronia Sweet Bliss Collection

Hi everyone! Been busy this past few weeks that I haven't done any post for my beloved blog. :)) So here it goes..

I'm "facebooking" the other day and jumped wall to wall and pages to pages that I "like", then I bump into Caronia Philippines's page and knew about there new sweet bliss collection and read good reviews and comments of other caronia women. Then the nail art addict in me got so excited to have those polishes included in my collection. I hurried to the drugstore near us and was relieve when I saw that the collection was available there! What even made me happier is that it only cost Php25($0.58) each. --But sad to say that Summer Fling isn't available.. :( -- But then, I have 5 out of the six. Not bad for a "far away from the city" place where I am now.

Nail Art: Sea on my Nails

Good day nail art addicts! It's summer again here in the Philippines so I want to share with you my second summer nails. I love my title, Sea on my Nails. *giggles* I just love the beach so much. It brings calmness serenity and peace to me.
In this design I used the sponging method after I apply my platinum shade base color. A sky blue shade then a glittering blue was sponge onto my nails "gradiently" to have that sea-effect. When it was dry I used the stamping method and put some sea creatures on either sides of the nails using a darker blue shade of nail paint.
I hope you like it ladies. Enjoy the beach! *mwuah*!
